How Do I Find a Home Near Work?

Commuting. Between the traffic, noise, and overall frustration, commuting is a wretched, mind-numbing, time suck. That is, unless you’ve got one heck of a book on tape!

But, if you lived closer to work, you could bike or maybe even walk. Think of the time, money and atmosphere saved! So is there a way to narrow your home search to proximity to your place of work? In fact, there is.

Did you know your search for homes can include the option of homes available within a particular mile radius? Using this feature you can focus your search on a city, neighborhood, a relative’s home, or yes, even your workplace.

First, tell your real estate consultant if proximity to your workplace is a priority in your home search. The Multiple Listing Service, or MLS, acts in a very similar way to most internet search engines. It allows agents to add as many filters as you want, like city, neighborhood, and even a mile radius from a location on a map.

When you provide your agent with that information, it’s easier to customize your home search to fit your needs and help you find the home of your dreams.

Once you’ve narrowed down your search and are considering homes, we’d advise you to route the rush hour and gauge what would be your typical commute! And try multiple routes because sometimes the shortest distance, can end up taking the longest amount of time because of multiple 4-way stops, school zones, stop lights, or just plain old traffic. So it’s important to take all these things into consideration before you put down an offer.

Living closer to work and getting rid of that long commute can give you more time to spend enjoying doing the things you love. If you have additional questions about how to customize your home search, send a BHURDinUtah agent a text or call today. We’d love to help you find a home that will comfortably fit the needs of your needs and lifestyle.
